Technology can make a substantial contribution to reducing workloads and increasing the quality of care. Innovative technologies such as fall and wander detection, video calling with doctors and the use of robots, provide more attention to patients and clients, contribute to positive outcomes and make work easier for care workers.

This is good news, as the workload in the care and welfare sector is already higher compared to other industries. With an ageing population expected to double and care demands only to become more complex, care will come under even more pressure.

Achieving these innovative technologies requires digital transformation. To gain insight into this topic, PQR is conducting an exploratory benchmark study, focusing on the question: what steps can healthcare organisations take to meet their goals or even accelerate their roadmap?

The views of IT managers, directors of operations and the Executive Board

In doing so, this survey is being circulated among IT managers, directors of operations and board members of healthcare institutions, with the aim of sharpening the differences between the visions of IT managers and the Board and bringing them closer together.

To answer the main question "How can healthcare organisations accelerate the realisation of their healthcare goals, through the use of smart ICT?", we look at how IT managers and board members see their role, how cooperation is taking place and whether their goals (roadmap) can be accelerated (chapter 1). In the second chapter, we look to the future. Which innovations are relevant to your organisation, or may already be in use? Many innovations are digital-oriented, so we conclude by looking at the status of current ICT and the roadmap.

The approach of other healthcare institutions

Participation in this survey not only gives you insight into the differences and similarities in the views of IT managers, directors of operations and board members, but also shows where other healthcare organisations stand on digital transformation and provides inspiration to accelerate their own innovation processes.

Research topics

  • What initiatives have already been undertaken to simplify the work of care workers?
  • The status of ICT infrastructure; can new developments be realised?
  • Do the IT department and the Board share the same vision for innovations?
  • How are new tools received by care staff?
